Newsletter- Autumn Term
Welcome to all our children!
We hope you have all had a great summer and are ready for the new Pre-School year!
What are we learning about this term?
The focus this term will be on settling children in to Pre-School routines and learning the rules and expectations of the setting. Children will also be participating in activities where they will be learning about themselves and each other.
Focus and Learning Intentions
All About Me
Getting to know each other and my Pre-School
What can our bodies do?
Exploring & investigating natural autumn objects
Exploring the outside
Planning is completed on a weekly basis and includes not only adult led learning intentions but also the children’s own interests and what they have been doing in their own child-initiated play.
Our planning is not set in stone and is subject to change according to what we observe children doing, as well as other learning opportunities which may happen spontaneously.
You may like to try some of the activities at home to support your child’s learning and understanding and talk to them about what they have been doing at Pre School.
Each week (starting next week) we have a rhyme of the week where the children learn new actions and begin to enjoy rhyme in songs. This will be emailed to you all to learn at home.

We do have children in Pre-School with nut allergies, therefore to manage the risk of an allergic reaction we ask that you do not send your child into Pre-School with food items containing nuts. Please provide a healthy packed lunch with no chocolate bars. Please also provide a full bottle of water.
Please provide your child with suitable clothing adapted to the weather, this allows them to enjoy learning in our outdoor classroom. Please provide a waterproof coat for unexpected showers. Please name all items of clothing and bags. We do like to go to the woods, if you have waterproof trousers please do supply them.
We have also become rather depleted of spare clothes, therefore providing your child with a spare change of clothes in the event of a ‘toilet’ or ‘water play’ accident ensures practitioners can change your child into appropriate sized clothing.
You may have seen our WOW board in Pre-School. We would like you to record any moments where you have been extremely proud of your child, for example, your child has learnt to swim without arm bands or has managed to put on their own shoes all by themselves. There are paper stars next to our WOW board, you are very welcome to write a star for your child and place it on our board. We will talk about your child’s amazing moments with the other children.
If any parents/carers or family members think they have a job the children may be interested in hearing about, or you have skills you would like to share with the children please do mention it to a staff member. We love having visitors at Pre School as it enhances the children’s learning.
Being a Registered Charity our Pre School relies on parent support. If you have an interest and would like to become a Trustee and be more involved with Pre-School or have any skills which you think would help us please show your interest by talking to Mrs Rutherford or Mrs Alison Cordiner, our chair of committee.

Just inside the Pre-School door you will find a red post box. Please could you post any forms, letters, suggestions, comments or any other correspondence that does not require immediate attention. We will check the box on a regular basis.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our Pre-School Families. What a lovely time we've had in Pre-School over the last couple of weeks! See you all in 2018.
The plan is to open tomorrow from 10.30am. Quite a few members of staff have children whose schools are starting later and with the overnight temperatures dropping to -6, the roads will be extremely icy to drive on first thing, I must consider the safety of staff.
Please take care when travelling to Pre-School and allow plenty of time, do not rush. If you do not feel able to travel tomorrow, please inform me by email. Your child’s safety is paramount.
If anything changes, I will inform you by email as soon as I can.
Please consider the weather and dress your child accordingly.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Due to the weather and road conditions at present, the majority of staff travel considerable distances and we need to be sure enough staff can make it into work, so that we can run the Pre-school safely with appropriate adult ratios, as well as checking the site is safe.
There is a high chance that we may have to close or open later tomorrow and so we suggest you make contingency plans should we have to make that final decision in the morning. If it snows again later and the roads freeze it is unlikely that the roads will be safe enough to travel on. Several schools have already made the decision to close in the area.
A final decision will be made in the morning and we will email by 8:00am to confirm whether we are closed or opening late. I will post sooner if it is clear that we need to shut.
